FRUITS OF LABOR
With Miet Warlop, subverted objects make rock and pop. Dismantled instruments, a spirit of playfulness and absurd humour turn a first-rate concert into an explosive spectacle.
An emphatically frenetic guitar-bass-drum trio serves up music that’s as raging or mind-blowing as you could ask for. Each piece involves wacky sequences with props, costumes and sculptures. This show, which progresses from tableau to tableau, as if a series of music videos that was coming alive on stage, is shot through with parody and self-deprecation. Fruits of labour hums with an energy that gradually builds in power to a grand finale. A production that manages to be eccentric without being hysterical, at once delirious and rigorously precise.
Miet Warlop (1978) is a Belgian visual artist born in Torhout. She lives and works between Ghent, Berlin and Brussels.
